Could you be a little loopyDo you consciously pay attention to where your mental energy is going every moment of every day? Do you know where your focus is at all times? The chances are that you don’t, in fact, you may have more going on than you care to believe.

One of the great delayers of dream and goal achievement is lack of focus and attention to what it is you want to achieve. Solidly focusing on what you want and diligently working towards that one thing, without stopping until you complete the task or achieve the goal is what is required to make great change.

There are a number of things that we allow to get in the way of our focus though. Distractions, procrastination, day dreaming about things unrelated to what we want to achieve, worrying, the stuff of every day life that takes up valuable mental energy.

Many of these things we commonly refer to as “energy loops”. Energy loops are things which you have going on in your life, things that could be often quickly be completed and resolved so that you don’t have to think about them anymore.

An example of this would be knowing that you are overdue for a dental checkup, or that your car is overdue for a service. Knowing that these things need to be done, they are constantly sitting in the back of your mind, and whether you are thinking about them constantly or not, they tend to pop into your conscious awareness throughout your day, providing unwelcome distraction and lack of focus. We can have hundreds of these energy loops going on at a time, so is it any wonder that focus can become a challenge for some of us?

If you have ever felt the satisfaction of having done a spring clean of your home, or just having cleaned out a room, or all of the files on your computer, you’ll know that it can be a very light and freeing feeling to know that things have been decluttered or cleared out or completed in a way that means you don’t have to think about it anymore. It frees your mind to focus on other things, and it feels great!

So let’s talk about closing some of those energy loops you have going in your life.

What do you know you have to get done that would free your mind up to be focussed on other things? What phone call could you make right now to get something sorted, make an appointment, or complete a transaction? What email do you need to reply to that you have been putting off? What conversations do you need to have with your friends, family, colleagues, or clients? What paper work do you need to complete? What paper work can be simply trashed?

All those small jobs which may take up to a couple of hours to get done are taking up more time than they need to, so when is going to be the time to get them all out of the way to make the space for you to focus on what you really want? Start by making a list, and work through each thing one by one. It might take you a few days, or a few weeks, but get all that little stuff out of the way, and notice what a difference it can make to your focus on the big stuff. That really juicy, fun, exciting stuff you really want to be working on.

I recently closed an energy loop that I let run for over two years. That’s right, two years I let it run, and it took me 4 hours to get it resolved once I’d finally decided I’d had enough of the worrying and constant distraction it was causing me to have from where I really wanted my focus to be. Now I don’t have to think about it at all, and it’s extremely freeing.

There is no better time to start closing energy loops than right now. Will more come up? Sure they will, jump on them and get them sorted ASAP and there will be far fewer distractions in your life, and you will hone your focus in on the things that are most important to you.
