The perfect job? Is there such a thing? Yes, there is – and that job is waiting for you to find it!
Patience, persistence, and an open mind are key traits to have while you’re searching for your dream job. There are also a few things you can do that will help speed up your search.
1. Read magazines or books on topics that interest you.
Many magazines and books can give you ideas of what you’d love to do for a career, so get reading! Start with broad categories, such as health and fitness, business, finance and beauty. Numerous niches are available in these categories, so you’ll find something that suits your personality, values, and desires. You may even read articles on or books written by people you admire or would like to work with. That information can guide you to your own personal mentor or next boss!
2. Use social media platforms.
LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter – you name it! There are tons of social networks on the internet today, and they can connect you to your dream job. If you’ve found people you think you’d work well with by reading books, magazines or other sources, you can find these people on social media sites and talk to them about any job opportunities. Even if they’re not hiring right away, you can still keep in contact with them. You never know – the perfect job could come out of the blue from a friend of a friend or someone in your social media network.
3. Learn about yourself.
What you love to do and your personality are key factors in guiding yourself to your ideal career. If you don’t have any hobbies or passions, go out into the world and discover yourself. Browse a bookstore for books that capture your attention. Volunteer at an animal shelter or senior care home. Read junk mail (seriously!). Ideas for your perfect job can be found anywhere.
It’s not always going to be easy to find that dream job. Perhaps you have very high expectations, or you’re not looking in the right place or noticing the signs around you. This doesn’t mean that you have to settle for less, though. Evaluate yourself and see if there’s something going on within you or in your life that may be blocking your path to your ideal job.
You can also take a career assessment test or personality quiz to help you figure out the perfect job for you. The DISC Personality Assessment, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality assessment and the Wealth Dynamics Personality Profile are the most well known and widely accepted.
