In the Hot Seat: Brigitte Schenkels

Brigitte SchenkelsToday we have Brigitte Schenkels in the hot seat.

Hey Brigitte! Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do in the world.

I am originally from the Netherlands. In 2002 I came to Australia with a big backpack to travel around Australia and New Zealand and in Broome I met the love of my life. I migrated to Perth in 2007 and married my lovely aussie man. He is a chef and works as FIFO (fly-in-fly-out) worker with a 4 weeks on, one week off swing, which is a different way of living, because I never see him much at home. Luckily I keep myself occupied with setting up my own business; Brigitte’s Jewels. I have the website up with the online shop opening soon.

At the moment I am working part-time at a small tourist company here in Western Australia as a receptionist. My goal is to get work in the tour guide industry organising tours.

How long have you been hanging around with the eQ mob?

I did the Life Design course in September 2012 and a few days after I came back home I left for Bali to do the Personal Mastery Course. I have met the most amazing people who are very close to my heart. In March I went over to Sydney to assist at the Life Design course, this was an awesome experience. It was a very tiring and rewarding week. I had a blast at the oval with Jodie and Niki. I had to help somebody that needed to go the hospital and helped Marty out in the kitchen and of course I walked on fire for the second time in my life! I have assisted at PSI in Perth a few times, it’s good to see the other side of eQ.

What changes have taken place in your life since being in this environment?

The biggest changes are that I am very conscious of the “T” word (YOU DO OR YOU DON’T), I have changed my environment, getting positive people around me and I believe more in being positive about things. I am doing what I really like doing and that is starting my jewellery business. I would have given up by now if it wasn’t for the amazing friends I have in my beading group. They help me through the ups and downs.

I will be participating in an event called The Sun Super Rider to Conquer Cancer in October. It is a 2 day bike ride, over 200 kilometres through the scenic countryside of Western Australia. That is a big feat for me. I’ll be training and getting into shape, but I am excited that I can do something this big in the fight against cancer.

My goal is to raise $2500. Anyone wanting to donate and sponsor my ride can go to the link here to contribute. And a big thank you in advance.

Visit and type in my name: Brigitte Schenkels.

How on purpose do you feel in your life now?

I do feel absolutely awesome, I have a business that will be opening online soon and I am going to ride for cancer in October. Next thing is working towards my dream job!

What do you do now that you never thought you would do before?

It sounds boring, but starting my own business is what I never would have thought was going to happen. I didn’t believe in myself and thought other people were better than me. I am helping out at a monthly business Sundowners in the place where I live. It brings together all small businesses in Perth to connect together and catch up with one another.

What inspires you these days?

The beautiful sunny days inspire me to get out there.

What is next in the world of Brigitte?

Next is going to the Netherlands for a holiday and going on a nice break with my husband. We want to buy a new house and I am going to look for a new job! Live my live to the fullest. I have got some ideas for my business, a new range in jewellery.

What is a pearl of wisdom that you want to share with us?

Dream what you want to dream, go where you want to go, be what you want to be. Because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.
