If you want financial freedom, the relationship of your dreams, the body of a supermodel or more happiness than a kid in a candy shop, here’s how you can get it.
Instead of pointing fingers at others and blaming situations you can’t control, take responsibility and realise that if you don’t have everything you want in life, you are the only person who can change it.
I’ll let you in on a little secret; high achievers don’t magically attract everything. Yes, the law of attraction does come into play and miracles do happen. However, by taking action, you have the ability to create the life you want. All you need to do is follow these 6 steps:
When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up? An actor? An acrobat? An artist? An astronaut? As kids, our ability to dream is limitless. The older you get, the less you dream of all the amazing things you want to be, do and have. Or more accurately, perhaps you adjust your dreams to meet your current circumstances, rather than dreaming big, bold and colourful. This limited thinking may be holding you back from getting what you want.
Find images of your dreams and put them up somewhere you will see them every day. Spend some time writing about what your perfect day would include. Or simply close your
eyes and really feel whatever you desire. Be specific and detailed and make sure it’s exciting and inspiring!
If it’s a new job you want, how will you feel when you get it? Visualise yourself walking into your new office and sitting down at your desk. If it’s a holiday, google the destination and see, smell, touch and taste yourself being there in your mind’s eye. If you want a new car, take one for a text drive. If you want to help others, imagine the smiles on their faces when you make a positive impact to their lives.
If you don’t back yourself 100% and have faith in your ability to achieve your dream, you probably won’t succeed. You need to believe your dream is possible, and you will achieve it no matter what. In business, there are actually 4 things you need to believe in to maximise your success; yourself, the company, the product and the client.
Surround yourself with positive people who encourage and support you to achieve your dreams. Don’t allow your friends and family to criticise you, bring you down and offload their BS (belief systems) onto you. As Arnold Schwarzenegger says, “Don’t listen to the naysayers”.
You are the average of your environment, so actively seek out people who inspire you, bring out the best in you and lift you up when you’re down. Spend time with people who have done what you want to do and their positive influence will rub off on you.
This step is all about taking MASSIVE ACTION. Create plans and then roll your sleeves up and get on with doing whatever needs to be done. Successful people form the habit of doing things they don’t like to do, because they realise the benefit in it.
Do whatever it takes. If you need to get up earlier, stay up later or miss out on social functions, so be it. If you need to change your lifestyle, your diet or your friends, do it. If you need support from someone else, get it.
If your plan isn’t working, change the plan; never change the goal. For example, if applying for jobs online is not getting you any interviews, don’t change the jobs you are applying for. Instead, attend networking events or approach companies directly and explain to them specifically what value you will add. Did you know only about 20% of jobs are advertised?
If you are not willing to do this, then perhaps your dream is not big enough. Remember to keep the dream at the forefront of your mind in everything that you do. If your “why” doesn’t make you cry, it’s not strong enough!
Surrender is the process of letting go and acceptance. It does not mean give up! When you have done everything in your power to achieve your goal, now is the time to sit back and let the universe take over. For example, when you have applied for a job, received an interview, attended the interview and gave it your best shot, there is nothing else you can do at this point to influence the outcome.
Many people find this the hardest step to achieve. If you find it difficult to surrender, remember that everything happens for a reason and if it doesn’t work out the way you wanted, it’s probably for the best. Perhaps there is another, better job waiting just around the corner. Take the lesson and move on. Do not give up!
The sweetest of all the stages is the moment you achieve your dream. The elation you feel in this moment is priceless. The excitement, relief and the realisation that it has all been worthwhile is second to none!
Success is… when the phone rings and you have got the job… when you start a business your first client signs up… when you cross the finish line of a marathon… when you book flights to your dream holiday destination… when you sign the contract on your new home… when the person you fancy says yes to a date… when you raise your targeted amount for your favourite charity.
Reflect on everything you have done to get to this point. Remember where you started, what obstacles you overcame, and most importantly, what have you learned. What did you do well and what could be improved for next time? The growth that you go through while on your way to achieving a big goal is just as important as the goal itself!
While it’s important to have fun at every stage in the process, this is where you really get to enjoy yourself! Sadly many people get to success and forget to celebrate! Celebrating not only rewards you for your efforts and gives you a well-deserved time out. Psychologically, it also helps lock in the feelings of success, which will help you succeed in your next big goal.
Your idea of celebrating might be very different to someone else’s. You might want to reward yourself by going to a nice restaurant or having a picnic; getting a massage or playing a game of golf; going clothes shopping or buying a new fishing rod. It doesn’t matter what you do to celebrate, whatever works for you is perfect!
